Anne,

You touched on some very important points in this post. There is much hype and “me-too” ism going on in the industry. It behooves one to stay clear, do their research and make decisions based on facts and true information.

The flip side though, is that a well funded, well organized start-up with an excellent business plan and very experienced owners could be one of the best investments you’ll ever make. There is clearly a risk vs. reward balance to be agknowledged. Yet if you pay attention historically to the network marketing industry, and you look at companies that are now established, you’ll find that those people who began when the company was brand new..or “pre-launching” and worked hard with commitment and intensity are very wealthy and are now leaders in the industry.

So I feel it is not correct to make a blanket statement to stay away from MLM companies under 2 years old. At the same time, it is prudent to put a lot of time and energy into your research and discovery phase before hopping on any new train.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Anne you are right there seems to be a new pre-launch being announced every couple of days and most of them look just horrible. The upside of picking the one that makes it can be a big draw. There are a few things you can look for to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

Does the company actually own anything? With outsourcing a MLM company can be started with a couple hundred thousand dollars. I was shocked when a friend of mine showed me the numbers. The owners can walk away at anytime because they don’t actually own anything. If the company has invested in millions in real infrastructure (factory, research, etc.) the owner has substantial motivation to succeed.

Is the company a me too company? Look at all the companies trying to be monavie. I expect monavie in business 5 years from now. The knockoffs that are flooding the market will all disappear. If you can’t identify a real competitive advantage neither can anyone else. Chasing the hot thing is a sure sign that the company is looking for a quick buck.
